FAQs About Professional Pet Grooming
At Plaza Veterinary Hospital, we offer professional pet grooming services to help you keep your pet as healthy and comfortable as possible. To help you do what’s best for your pet’s care, we have provided the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions below.
How often should I get my pet groomed?
How often you should take your pet to a groomer depends on how long your pet’s coat is and how much they shed. Cats or dogs with longer fur typically need to be groomed every 4-6 weeks, while shorter-haired pets can usually go 8-12 weeks between visits.
How long does a pet grooming appointment last?
An appointment for a bath with no trip typically takes about 90 minutes, and a bath with trip up to 2 hours. Additionally, your pet grooming session may take longer if your dog is very large or very fluffy, and even longer than that if their fur is matted.
What should I do if my pet’s hair is knotted?
Knotted or matted fur is unhealthy for your pet’s skin, so we recommend that you brush your pet regularly at home to keep their coat free of tangles. If your pet’s fur does become matted, it may be possible to “de-matt” it, but unfortunately that process is often painful to your pet and irritating to its skin. If it’s not possible to de-matt your pet’s fur, we will instead use clippers to remove that part of their coat.
